Book Blast: Change of Heart by S.E Edwards & Giveaway

Persevere.

That’s how I’ve gotten through nineteen years of life. It’s what I do every single day—no matter how badly the odds are stacked against me.

Persevere, and survive.

Those are my two guiding words. I never knew either of my parents. I have no family and no home. The only person I could ever rely on was myself. In this cruel world, that’s about as much as I could ask for.

Love? Hah. Don’t talk to me about love. I stopped believing in it the day my first boyfriend ripped out my heart three years ago.

That’s why love is the last thing on my mind when I leave a packed college bar with a captivating stranger. Yet everything changes when I’m awakened in the middle of the night by a pounding at the door. Suddenly, an arrangement meant for just one night threatens to become something much deeper.

All expectations are thrown to the wind as I’m tangled in a dangerous world unlike anything I can believe. The man I met has secrets swirling around him like a dark cape. I’m about to become his biggest one…

Together, we stumble toward the elevator. Rich breaks away for a second to hit the button. The light doesn’t come on.“Damn,” he growls, “it’s busted again.”I’m one step ahead of him. I’d spotted the stairs when we entered. I grab his hand and pull him after me with no hesitation. I start up the cement stairwell, determined to get to his room as fast as possible.

“Penny, wait.”

I look back, confused. “What?”

A devilish smile plays on his lips. “Only this.” Without warning his hands wrap around my waist, and I’m being lifted up as easily as if I were a doll. He turns to the side and presses my body against the wall, suspending me between him and the concrete.

His mouth crashes down on mine again. I curl my legs around his torso, locking my ankles together, and kiss him back with the passion reserved for a lover after ten long years apart. I didn’t think it was possible, but I’m getting even more turned on. Rich’s hands move down to grasp the outside of my thighs, and I moan into his kiss as the muscles of my core clench in sinful fashion. I want him so
badly. If we don’t get somewhere private soon, I won’t be wholly opposed to jumping him in public.

I gasp as he steps away, freeing me from the wall. I start to fall, but one of his hands darts down to catch me just beneath the knees. The other one cradles my shoulders. Before I know it, I’m slung across his arms like a bride on her wedding night.

“I’ve always wanted to carry a girl up these stairs,” Rich admits.

I laugh, and wrap my arm around his neck. “Oh, you are just the best type of romantic.”

Four flights of stairs later, Rich pushes open the fire door to a dimly-lit hallway. He carries me down the hall and stops in front of an entrance on the right. He sets me down, then fishes around in his jeans for the key. When the door creaks open, he sweeps a hand out in front of him. “Welcome to my humble abode.”

I walk in, curious about his apartment. I tend to side with the camp of people who believe that a person’s living arrangements can reveal a lot about his personality. But, I don’t find much to work with here.

The apartment is sparse and dark. Pale moonlight filters in through the balcony window, shining down on the only piece of furniture present: a queen size mattress lying on the floor of the living room. The red brick walls are totally empty—no girly posters or other things I might expect in a bachelor’s apartment. There are no lamps, no chairs, no couches.

After a moment, I notice a second piece of furniture: a small, old-school CRT TV camped in one corner of the studio apartment.

Rich switches on the light. “So?” he asks, “what do you think?”

I walk past the entrance. There’s one hall leading away from the room. It is filled with brown cardboard boxes. Lots and lots of boxes. “Did you just move in or something?”

Rich laughs behind me. “Yeah, something like that. You want a drink?”

“A drink?” I say. “No, I—”

The words catch in my throat as he grabs my hips and spins me around. I had no idea he’d come so close. He’d moved from the door to me without making a sound. His fingers lock together against my lower back, and he tugs me into him, pressing my belly to his waist. I feel his growing erection right away, and a diabolical excitement builds inside me.

Nothing happens.

For a long moment, Richard just holds me like that, staring into my eyes as I’m left dangling off his arms. His irises are the color of sea mist. I’m hypnotized by the deep intensity I see brewing just beneath the surface. I have no doubt that that type of intensity is mirrored in my eyes.

Then, moving slowly, as if restraining himself, Richard lowers his mouth to cover mine. This time, his kiss is sweet and gentle. Subtle and caring. He explores my upper lip first, then traces the line going to the corner of my mouth. His lips form a perfect mold over mine.

I was wrong before. This is the kiss reserved for a lover you haven’t seen in ten years.

I’m Scarlett Edwards. I’m a full-time student (2nd year, undergrad) and part-time writer. I hope to switch those around soon!

I’m kind of old fashioned. I write all my stories using paper and ink. At the end of the day, I transcribe them on my laptop. It takes a bit longer, but writing in a notebook really focuses my thoughts.

I love vintage photography. I have an old-school film camera that was my mom’s from before I was born. I use it to take pictures almost every day.
Yours to Savor is the first full book I worked on. It went through six drafts, and took me ten months to complete. In the two months since getting it done, I finished two drafts of brand new stories. I’m getting faster!

I love hearing from my readers. I love getting feedback about my books. I’m just getting started, and plan on doing this writing gig for a long, long time.
I take inspiration from all the indie romance authors. Addison Moore, Samantha Young, Colleen Hoover, Jessica Sorensen, and everyone else…. you girls rock!

Review:
I won this ARC in a giveaway and I must say it was very different then I am used to. Of course it’s a love story and a good one written at that, but I just ate up the Hollywood-ness, the stardom, everything around it. It really read more like a movie if I have to be honest.
The blurb from Goodreads says it all, but I liked the style how it was written. You did not only see one story, but a few. The writer was not afraid to show the flaws of the character and I liked that. The “backdrop” of the story was also very nice. A magazine editor, a screenwriter, an actor, actress, even a billionaire was thrown into the mix! But they still compliment the storyline.

I do have to point out that I did receive it as an ARC, so I read over the mistakes made, but as it is published the moment I am writing this, I think the kinks are worked out. Also want to point out that I was not asked to do a review, but because I really liked the book, I decided to review it. I am keeping an eye on this author and her next book!

Title: The Quiver of a Kiss: The Seduction of Helen of Troy
Author: Sarah Daltry
Published: April 03, 2013

Blurb via goodreads

A retelling of the passions of Helen of Troy, the face that launched a thousand ships. Denied love by her father, brothers, and the gods, Helen found that she could not resist her desire any longer when she met a young man from a city across the sea.

Helen of Troy is renowned in history as the face that launched a thousand ships, but who was she really? Did she truly choose to bring a city to its knees out of selfish lust? Was it more complicated than that?

Helen is the bargaining tool of her brothers and her father. She learns of lust but is denied love until she is drawn to one of her suitors, a man named Odysseus. When her father decides, however, that she will marry Menelaus, Helen becomes a pawn for both her new husband and the gods. She manages to survive, however, until a young man from Troy, a city across the sea, ignites in her a passion that will be the destruction of empires.

* This is an erotic historical romance that is intended for adult readers.

Review:

I have to admit this was the first historical romance I have ever read in my life. I have always had something for the greek/mythical type of movies/tv shows and now I think I love the books too. This novella was well written and I had moments where I never even wanted to put the book down. The steamy love scenes added to this book as well. What I really loved about the book was the use of the language, it wasn’t too classical or old, but still written with the right sense of the time of when the book was taking place (Am I making any sense?)

Helen was definitely a woman with a mind of her own and would not bow down to all the male dominance of her time. Everything was done on her terms. I loved her character very much and even hated how cruel the men were in that time. I imagined myself living back then and knew that it was not something I would be cut out for. If you are looking for a happy ending that is something that this book does not have, but if you have heard the story of Helen of Troy you already know that.

Review:

I received this book as an ARC via AtomR Tours. First of all I was attracted to the cover, yes I am that type of person, I need a nice cover to make me believe the book is good. This book was above what I expected it to be and definitely a must read for anyone who enjoys this genre of books.

Maggie is broken in so many ways and has a past she is ashamed of  until she meets Asher. Asher is an ex-rocker, tall, largely built with dark messy hair. Then there is William, who is about marry Maggie’s sister and is also Maggie’s ex-fiance, but still has feelings for Maggie. William and Asher are definite opposites of each other. Asher is the bad boy and William is the nice guy. The one thing they have in common is their love for Maggie. Maggie shares her deepest secrets with Asher, only to find out that they have met before in Maggie’s past. After everything she shares with him, he never ever judges her for the choices and things she has made in her life. Can she find herself worthy of Asher’s love? Do her feelings for William get in the way?

Lexi did a wonderful job with writing this book. I felt an instant attraction to Asher and also felt deeply for everything Maggie had gone through as a teenager. Review: One True Love by Lori Wilde

Bigger Cover

Title: One True Love: A Cupid, Texas Novella

Author: Lori Wilde

Publisher: Avon Impulse

Release Date May 21st, 2013

Blurb:

In Cupid, Texas, they say everyone has one true love. And if you write a letter to Cupid, you will get an answer in return . . .

Now, from New York Times bestselling author Lori Wilde, read how the legend of Cupid began . . . All it took was one great love story! Too bad for pretty young housemaid Millie Greenwood that her one true love is John Fant, the handsomest, wealthiest man in town. But in 1924, a maid—no matter how lovely—isn’t about to marry into the town’s foremost family, and John is on the verge of becoming betrothed to another. Everything seems hopeless until Millie writes a desperate letter to Cupid, and the most romantic legend of all is born …

Review:

I was able to review this book through Tasty Book Tours and was happy I made the last minute decision to sign up for this book. It was a novella and the prequel to Lori’s upcoming books “Love at First Sight” and “All Out of Love”. They are all part of the Cupid, Texas Series.

Millie is just your average everyday girl, when he father dies in a mining accident, which is owned by the wealthy John Fant, she is offered a job as a maid in a family home. She knew that common girls like her would never ever stand a chance with a wealthy, handsome man like John, but she couldn’t help but be intrigued by him. One day after church when she goes out exploring with Rosalie, they end up in in Cupid’s Cavern. Rosalie tells her the tale about the cavern and how Mingus and Louisa came to find love.

I loved the setting of this book and that it took place years and years ago, which made my imagination run free to the days when things were so simple, but love could still become complicated. There is definitely an instant connection between the handsome John and the simple Millie. Until the day that Millie finds out that John was betrothed to a young woman from another wealthy family. Millie understands she must fight her feelings and go back to her everyday life. Millie then decides to take fate into her own hands a write cupid a little letter of her own, but does cupid answer her letter? Though the outcome was a little predictable this short read was a fun Sunday afternoon read, which I did not want to put down until I reached the last page. The only negative thing I have to say about this book, is that I don’t think the cover fit the scenes that were described in the book. The cover seems to be too modern for a book set in 1924.
