mr darcyMy Own Mr. Darcy

After being dragged to the 2005 movie Pride and Prejudice by her mother, sixteen-year-old Elizabeth’s life changes when Matthew Macfadyen’s Mr. Darcy appears on the screen. Lizzie falls hard and makes a promise to herself that she will settle for nothing less than her own Mr. Darcy. This ill-advised pledge threatens to ruin any chance of finding true love. During the six intervening years, she has refused to give any interested suitors a chance. They weren’t Mr. Darcy enough.

Coerced by her roommate, Elizabeth agrees to give the next interested guy ten dates before she dumps him. That guy is Chad, a kind and thoughtful science teacher and swim coach. While she’s dating Chad, her dream comes true in the form of a wealthy bookstore owner named Matt Dawson, who looks and acts like her Mr. Darcy. Of course she has to follow her dream. But as Elizabeth simultaneously dates a regular guy and the dazzling Mr. Dawson, she’s forced to re-evaluate what it was she loved about Mr. Darcy in the first place.

Deb S:

How do I start with this review? It was sooooo good!!! Really you should read it! It’s about this girl who falls in love with a fictional character (who of us doesn’t? My book crush: Acheron) Anyway to get back to the story. So this girl is so infatuated about Mr. Darcy that no man can measure up. Untill her roommate pressures her to give some guy a try for 10 dates. You just have to love BFF’s right?

Anyway, you know by now I don’t like giving any spoilers but the story was awesome, the characters were likeable and very well written. I am so team Chad right now! But the author managed to make me like the other guy! And that’s true right? Nobody is just good or just evil. So yeah loved loved loved it! But you also see growth in the main character, who was a little (a lot!) obsessive. Oh and one of my favorite parts? The opinion of Tom Cruise! The people who really know me will understand hihi. So awesome book, I would so recommend it!

Deb T:

I had no idea what to expect about this book and I have to admit I ended up loving it! The book had a great set of characters, even though I ended up hating Matthew, since he was just such an @ss in my opinion. On the other hand, there was so much to LOVE about Chad, he just seemed like the sweetest guy in the world and every woman’s daydream! As for Lizzie, well yeah, she definitely had her eyes set on her own Mr. Darcy, without seeing the great guy that was in front of her the entire time. This is great book for people of all ages and is a super sweet & fun love story. The book has certainly left me curious about Pride and Prejudice.

Review: The Quiver of a Kiss: The Seduction of Helen of Troy by Sarah Daltry

Title: The Quiver of a Kiss: The Seduction of Helen of Troy
Author: Sarah Daltry
Published: April 03, 2013

Blurb via goodreads

A retelling of the passions of Helen of Troy, the face that launched a thousand ships. Denied love by her father, brothers, and the gods, Helen found that she could not resist her desire any longer when she met a young man from a city across the sea.

Helen of Troy is renowned in history as the face that launched a thousand ships, but who was she really? Did she truly choose to bring a city to its knees out of selfish lust? Was it more complicated than that?

Helen is the bargaining tool of her brothers and her father. She learns of lust but is denied love until she is drawn to one of her suitors, a man named Odysseus. When her father decides, however, that she will marry Menelaus, Helen becomes a pawn for both her new husband and the gods. She manages to survive, however, until a young man from Troy, a city across the sea, ignites in her a passion that will be the destruction of empires.

* This is an erotic historical romance that is intended for adult readers.

I have to admit this was the first historical romance I have ever read in my life. I have always had something for the greek/mythical type of movies/tv shows and now I think I love the books too. This novella was well written and I had moments where I never even wanted to put the book down. The steamy love scenes added to this book as well. What I really loved about the book was the use of the language, it wasn’t too classical or old, but still written with the right sense of the time of when the book was taking place (Am I making any sense?)

Helen was definitely a woman with a mind of her own and would not bow down to all the male dominance of her time. Everything was done on her terms. I loved her character very much and even hated how cruel the men were in that time. I imagined myself living back then and knew that it was not something I would be cut out for. If you are looking for a happy ending that is something that this book does not have, but if you have heard the story of Helen of Troy you already know that.

Review: Remembering Love by Nadine Christian

Banyan Tree in Thomas Edison Garden at Fort Myers Florida USARemembering Love by Nadine Christian | Published February 1st 2013 by Eternal Press

Blurb from Goodreads:

When her beloved foster parents pass away, Holly discovers a past both shocking and heartbreaking: the murder/suicide of her biological parents on the South Pacific island of Pitcairn, famous for the HMAV Bounty mutineers. Travelling to a home she does not remember, Holly reconnects with long-lost childhood friend Jack. An old friendship quickly becomes more…until a dark secret is uncovered.

Will joyous love remembered become heartbreak? Can she find out the truth before someone else is hurt?

Before I start, I want to do a shout out to every author out there: Please, keep on writing and keep on trying to amaze us. You might not amaze everyone of course, but never ever give up!

Next I want to thank Nadine Christian for sending us this book. I was totally amazed! But more than that, I was touched. She opened up a new world for me. Really, I did not even know a place like Pitcairn Island (pron.: /ˈpɪtkɛərn/; Pitkern: Pitkern Ailen) existed. They say write what you know and that is exactly what she did. I could almost reach for that little island with the amazing view and the town so small the offices don’t have to open every day. It even sounds romantic that there is no electricity sometimes haha! But I bet the stars are amazing at night, aren’t they? Please answer me this dear author?

One of the places in the book

One of the places in the book

Ok let me stop gushing before you all might think I am in love with the author! But I did love her book. Except for the amazing new place I just got introduced to, it was a really good story. It was a story about love. What it can bring forth, good and bad. Sadly bad is there too.
I loved the main characters and their love story was unique and still familiar at the same time. It could’ve been cliche, but the story made sure it wasn’t. It also was about something that happens way too often in real life and I hope this story will encourage you to never close your eyes if you see this happening or worse, add to the misery. And if you are in this situation yourself, please, you are worth so much more than that! Know that!
Miss Christian managed to touch a lot of bases in her book and I loved it. It started out  a little slow, but not too much. But when it takes off, it grips you like an eagle and makes you soar up high and take those dives that bring tears to your eyes and that feeling in your stomach? Yeah, that is the author dragging you through the feelings of the characters.
When I started this book I had so many obligations that I could not start the right way, picking at a page here and there – wait, maybe that’s why it seemed slow? – but just about two hours ago, I took to my bed for a nap, thinking I would read a few pages and I just devoured it! And I had to get up and write this review, because it was worth it. It needed to be written.

Well that’s all I can say without giving away too much of the story.
